Sometimes the rhythmic crack of steady slappage is the only soundtrack we need to enjoy a good spanking between kinky adults. Other times, however—particularly when we’ve got neighbors nearby and want to muffle the sounds of our sadomasochistic fun—music is preferable. So the question then becomes, “What shall we put on?” Which tunes are most likely to create desirable vibes?
Experience has taught me great spanking music fosters an atmosphere that allows participants to get into the zone and stay there without too much distraction. It’s also best to stay away from anything too cheesy, as spanking is often an intimate and therefore serious affair. I can dig me some Billy Joel during a drunken karaoke sesh, but throw on “Uptown Girl” while I’m taking down my undies and you’re gonna have to put a stop to that (like, now).
Clearly taste is subjective and what works for me may not work for thee. I’m not here to tell you what to do. If you want to spank to Limp Bizkit all night, who am I to judge? I’ve simply found certain genres that tend to resonate better than others during my sessions with play partners, and I am here today to share that research with you, fine reader.
“Billy Joel? Limp Bizkit? Are you fucking OLD?”
Indeed, it would appear so. Let us dive in!
Classical
Classical music is hands-down the best genre I’ve encountered for our purposes. It’s got that old-timey, high-minded, sophisticated feel that blends beautifully with the act of painting bare bottoms. It’s rather hypnotic as well, pulling spanker and spankee into a deep trance as twinkling piano notes dance across the air. I like to imagine rich Victorian kinksters getting their bloomers removed for spanking parties in the privacy of their boudoirs with a classical quartet playing off to the side.
“Reginald, play Bach’s ‘Goldberg Variations’ as we carry out this caning!”
Silly rich people.
Classical music is also DRAMATIC, much like the dynamic emotions involved in spanking sessions. It tells a story full of ups and downs, lightheartedness and despair. Spankos tell a similar story with our affectionate smacks, building to a climactic crescendo and enjoying quiet moments of rest and praise.
Whenever I’m getting spanked to classical, endless visions flow to me as the experience unfolds. Angels descending to earth to battle demons climbing from the depths of hell! Flowers blooming in all their horny glory across vibrant emerald hillsides! The seas of Poseidon rising rapidly to swallow Atlantis whole! Lively gentlemen and elegant ladies frolicking about! Bunnies and teatime and frilly dresses and boats and butterflies and horse-drawn carriages and stoic men brooding while smoking pipes by the fire! British shit.
Try it, dear reader. You will not be disappointed.

You can never go wrong with Mozart, that brilliant weirdo. His works carry a profundity of emotion that adds seamlessly to the divine connectivity of an erotic spanking. With over 600 compositions to choose from, you’ll be hard pressed to spank to them all. I recommend starting with classics like “Symphony No. 40,” “Piano Concerto No. 20,” and “Requiem.”
Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons” is instantly recognizable. Written during the Baroque era, it remains one of the most vivid, accessible, and story-like works in all of classical music. A sonorous painting to delight our minds (and bottoms)!
If raw intensity is what you crave, give Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 5” or “Symphony 7” a whirl. Their dramatic intricacies will have you spanking to start a revolution!
Jazz
When it comes to spankin’ tunes, this genre comes in as a close second. Like classical, jazz carries a sophisticated quality, but is also down-to-earth and rooted in infectious rhythm intended to get people off their soundly spanked asses and onto the dance floor.
Jazz musicians have blessed us with bangers since the earliest days of the 20th century, but I’m partial to the Swing Era that began in the 1930s. This was around the time big bands began featuring vocalists, whose lyrics added concrete imagery and meaning to each song. Much of the jazz from this era is smooth, playful, and romantic all at once, giving spanko lovers endless options to enjoy as we canoodle through our firm but sensuous “discussions.”

I adore Ella Fitzgerald, The First Lady of Song, with her warm voice and joyful energy. There’s an innocence to her vibe underlying her technical prowess that creates a stark dichotomy between the uplifting mood of the music and the pain of a spanking. Modern compilations like the 2017 release The Complete Decca Singles make it easy to spank to a string of beloved hits.
You'll also find success with legends like Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Artie Shaw. Throw on one of their playlists on a sunny day during a session and you’ll be transported back in time without a care in the world.
Billie Holiday’s music is filled with vulnerability and desire, two aspects of the human experience we spankos know well. Lock all the doors, get stark-raving naked with your play partner, put on one of Billie’s Greatest Hits albums, and spank the day away.
My very favorite jazz track from the 30s, however, is a song called “Small Fry,” written in 1938 by Hoagy Carmichael and Frank Loesser. It was first sung and introduced by Bing Crosby in the film Sing You Sinners (1938), but the version I love best was sung by “Queen of Swing” Mildred Bailey. The lyrics describe an incredibly naughty young man who’s gotten too big for his britches, as well as the singer’s desire to dole out justice.
Small fry, kissed the neighbor's daughter
Small fry, stay in shallow water
Seems I should take you cross my knee
You ain't the biggest catfish in the sea
Imagine my face when I first heard those words. "She’s gonna spank that sinful lad!"
Then I looked up some pics of Mildred and realized this was not a game. Someone go back in time and hand that woman a hairbrush.

Blues
The blues is more than a genre; it’s a feeling every one of us who’s ever experienced hardship can relate to deeply. These songs feature lyrics that describe pain, loss, and longing that can help us listeners process our own difficult emotions. Through blues, suffering is transmuted into beauty and connection—all very similar to the magic we create with our fellow spankos when we gather to swat butts and cuddle.
The messy honesty of the blues is what draws me in the most, for we spankees must be willing to experience similarly messy emotional states while getting spanked. Decorum falls to the wayside and we find ourselves expressing the depths of our pain, a sight only our play partners truly get to see. Very synchronous vibes.

Lately, I’ve been crazy about R. L. Burnside, who played blues all his life but didn’t receive proper recognition until the mid 90s. His voice, lyrics, and guitar skills are characterized by a fierce, twangy, ragged perfection I can’t get enough of. I highly recommend giving this whole album, A Bothered Mind, quite a few rounds.
I had the pleasure of seeing B.B. King live as a kid and never forgot the intense passion he brought out in the crowd. Live at the Regal is considered by many to be his cornerstone masterpiece.
Muddy Waters has a deep, commanding voice any spanker can channel while doling out a good time. Rough one moment and smooth the next, his growl keeps the energy churning. Here’s At Newport 1960 for you, one of his best live recordings.
R&B
As you may have noticed, much of the music I spank to stems from vintage origins, but modern music can fit into playtime just as well. The rich, intimate grooves of R&B support sensual songs that lend themselves beautifully to physical expression. What 80s child like me didn’t make out to R&B with their college boyfriend in the dorms?

The soft, sultry voice of Sade is like a warm, soothing blanket that’s romantic and deeply emotional. While many think of her as a soul singer, the music of Sade’s band features heavy R&B elements. She sings of longing, heartbreak, and the lure of love. I recommend her albums Promise, Lovers Rock, and Stronger Than Pride. Fair warning: you might cry!
Aaliyah, may she rest in peace, was taken from this world far too soon but still managed to leave us with One in a Million, one of the best albums of the mid-90s. Great to spank to if you can resist the urge to get up grind on each other.
You might also consider Marvin Gaye, for who doesn’t think of erotic spanking as a form of “Sexual Healing”? His 1973 album Let’s Get It On can’t be beat if R&B suits your spanko pleasures.
Nine Inch Nails
Honorable mention here for my favorite band in the whole wide world. NIN may not work for your purposes if hard industrial isn’t your thing, but Trent Reznor—the very same who proclaimed he wants to “fuck you like an animal” back in 1994—has birthed an extensive body of work that's decidedly sexual. If getting held down and spanked hard to animalistic goth rock is your thing, NIN fits the ticket in a primal pinch. Inject that shit into my veins.

I’m a sucker for the early albums and none clocked us over the head harder than The Downward Spiral. Dark, transgressive, and deliciously kinky, there is much to dig into here for the BDSM inclined.
The Fragile is a two-disc masterpiece that rides on a contrast of chaos and serenity. Quiet passages explode into heavy, cathartic climaxes. Its themes convey a deeply human, emotional journey that alternates between delicate beauty and crushing intensity. While The Fragile was underappreciated in mainstream circles, I’d spank to it any day.
Bonus tip: Trent Reznor and his wife Mariqueen Maandig created a post-industrial band called How to Destroy Angels in 2009 with Nine Inch Nails member Atticus Ross and longtime collaborator Rob Sheridan. While not technically a part of the NIN brand, How to Destroy Angels released a gorgeous namesake EP, followed by their spectacular album Welcome Oblivion and a subsequent EP, An Omen. I was immediately hooked on all three and if the idea of NIN with female vocals intrigues you, I think you’ll like them too.
So much marvelous music out there to spank to! Give some of these recs a try when you have time, if you’re keen. I’m also curious about your personal recommendations. What music do you like to spank to?
